Independent watchmaking is hot! Since 2006, Zeitwinkel Montres S.A. joins the club of independent watchmakers. However, it wasn’t until the last BaselWorld (2010) that they introduced themselves with their impressive timepieces.
Founded by Professor Ivica Maksimovic and Peter Nikolaus in 2006. Their philosophy is simple yet brilliant: create high quality timepieces that are not being affected by marketing campaigns and fads. Zeitwinkel needed a few years to give their watches a timeless design and to construct an in-house movement for them. After the process of prototyping their watches, production started in 2009 to be able to demonstrate them during BaselWorld 2010.
The result is magnificent and very much in line with their company philosophy. A clean and sleek yet elegant looking timepiece with an in-house designed mechanical movement. Personally, I also would use the word ‘honest’ when talking about Zeitwinkel timepieces. The prices start at 4900 Euro, which seems to be quite steep for a new brand with no historical background or whatsoever, but the sleek design, the craftsmanship of the case (look especially at the side of the watch case) and in-house movement justifies prices like this. We have seen too many examples of other new brands that deliver less and ask more.
Zeitwinkel developed two different movements, calibers ZW 0102 and ZW 0103. Both movements feature the following functions: a (small) second, a date and ofcourse hours and minutes, it has a power reserve of 3 days, 72 hours. The ZW 0103 is able to show the remaining hours on the dial with a power reserve indicator.
Currently, Zeitwinkel offers four different models: the 312°, 032°, 181° and 273°. All can be seen on the official Zeitwinkel website, including specifications per model. With Zeitwinkel’s 3D model configurator, you can actually prototype an existing Zeitwinkel model to your own wishes. This means you can choose between dial colors (silver or black) and straps (black rubber, brown alligator, black alligator).
