Volna Volnatomic Liquid Tourbillon, Yvan Arpa's Nuclear Watch!

Volna is a niche watch brand combining Russian heritage and Swiss made quality. This brand stands on forefront in my list, as the watches they created are all out of avant-garde ideas. The latest novelty from Volna is the Volna Volnatomic Liquid Tourbillon. Just as the title suggests, it is Yvan Arpa's Nuclear Watch!

Yvan Arpa's

To fully appreciate this watch needs a little knowledge about the man behind it. Yvan Arpa is considered as one of the most avant-garde CEOs in watchmaking field. He has been everything from controversial to overly confident, but he made watch company Romain Jerome what it is today – successful. Yeah, he is the former CEO of the innovative brand Romain Jerome. Mr. Arpa is a resourceful man enjoying a reputation for being "difficult to control" and highly "characterful" in his management style. The highly sought-after and distinctive Romain Jerome Titanic DNA and Moon Dust DNA watch lines proceed from Yvan's ideas.

Under the guidance of Yvan Arpa, the Volna Volnatomic Liquid Tourbillon is developed from Cold War inspired ideas. The watch is simply nuclear. The movement with its design inspired by the interior of ballistic missile nuclear submarines (SSBN), in tune with brand identity codes, features cut-out bridges with sandblasted, hand-bevelled finishing, a honeycomb structure and an atomic reactor symbolised by a tourbillon carriage shaped like an atomic propeller. Two "tanks" positioned at 8 and 10 o'clock are embedded into the movement mainplate and contain a blue-coloured fluid that is also visible through a sapphire crystal on the side of the watch.

The yellow colour applied to various movement parts contains superluminova pigments which are also present in the immersed central tube of each tank evoking uranium storage pools. Also worth mentioning is the emergency exit sign which is active during the winding and time-setting operations. When plunged into darkness, the movement treats us to a spectacular luminescent festival in which crime scene, emergency exit and radiation danger signs meet and mingle to create impressive visual effects.

The movement is a Concepto Watch Company C-8019, developed from A to Z by the Concepto Watch Factory based in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The Volna Volnatomic Liquid Tourbillon is secured to the wrist by a genuine rubber strap with yellow hand stitching. The double pin buckle is finished with PVD coating. Only ten pieces are made available for this singular watch.

In a word, this exceptional, rebellious and daring piece achieves an unprecedented technical feat, and what's more, demonstrates a perfect fusion of Russian heritage, Swiss made quality, and Yvan Arpa's craziness.

Muito over!
